Before he released the new album Sweet Creep last year, Jonny Fritz embarked upon a musical and spiritual journey traversing India with Robert Ellis and Nashville filmmaker Joshua Shoemaker. Courtesy of Rolling Stone Country, the first peek at his trip with a performance of the song "Forever Whatever" can now be seen HERE.

"We met this woman Neeti and her brother Raj at the Devi Music Ashram," Fritz explained. "They run an ashram where you can stay for $3 a night in a very nice room, overlooking the Himalayan holy city of Rishikesh (where The Beatles learned TM)! There's no limit to how long you can stay at Devi and if we didn't have flights to catch (and if Robert didn't almost die from some parasite) we'd probably still be there. Neeti and Raj were very reluctant to play music with us. It was confusing since they run an ashram completely based around music. We finally talked them into playing this song with us. Looking back, I wish we had pushed to record more songs with them. But India is a very confusing place and often makes you wonder why you did any of it in the first place."

Later this month Fritz will be on the road again, playing over two months of shows in the US and abroad, with a select run of February and March shows with Margo Price. All upcoming dates are listed below.

Sweet Creep was recorded in Jim James' makeshift hilltop studio in Montecito Heights, where golden twilight fills up thirsty grass valleys; Sweet Creep reverberates with the same feeling of sunny new vistas. From the empathetic "Are You Thirsty?" to the summer-crushy "Humidifier", Sweet Creep is a freshly-signed lease on life, with the movers downstairs waiting by the truck.

With welcome advice from James, Jonny throws himself into Sweet Creep by stripping things down to the essentials. He gathered up the crew- Nashville's Joshua Hedley and Dawes's Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith-and literally recorded the whole album outdoors in three days underneath a tent purchased at Home Depot, with half the equipment "borrowed" from Guitar Center. The fresh air, freedom from studio pressures, and strong cups of tea all mix into the music, with ATVs briefly heard in the background and two senior tortoises listening at Hedley's feet as he fiddles away.
