John Wesley Coleman III will release Cuckoo Bird Sings a Song this Friday October 26th via Goliad Media. You can see a new video (see Austin Monthly premiere) and listen to a full album stream ahead of release date (see the Bad Copy premiere).
Coleman recorded the album in Milwaukee in the winter. Asked to characterize it, Coleman says "It feels like a basement full of hope and sadness. But positive force of music on the ears." A number of special guests appear on the album, and Chris Simpson (Mineral, The Gloria Record, Mountain Time) is the writer behind one of the songs.
John Wesley Coleman III is not an outlaw, not Americana, barely punker and not a garage rocker. But a dude that's been writing songs about the world in head since he was teenage Texas punker skate acid freak. Living in Austin, TX hustling landscaping and art to get by and being a rad dad raising his kid, he finished a 15 year career with the group Golden Boys. His new album is his most daring array of baroque power pop basement fringe yet. Having gone to Milwaukee to have it produced by Vincent Kircher and fellow band mates from Jaill (Burger, Sub Pop) who played on the album, JWC is in his prime making rock and roll melodies that carry a sad torch (but not too sad - more like beer soaked heavy bong smoke poetry from the depths of a punker's dream basement).
Having toured many times over the years Coleman has shared the stage with many kinds of bands like Oblivians, No Bunny, Ty Segal, Roky Erickson, Radioactivity, L7, Spider Bags, etc. He'll be hitting the road upon release of Cuckoo Bird Sings a Song.
