John Watts is set to release new material in honor of 9/11.

In his years in the music industry, John Watts has remained nothing if not original. As part of super group Fischer-Z, John Watts was responsible for over 2 million record sales. He has been a songwriter in residence on 6 Music, created limited edition sculptures with his own vinyl and is an internationally recognized poet and songwriter who has released over 17 albums. Now, John has created homage to those touched by 9-11, near and far. The musical masterpiece's visual counterpart is courtesy of John's daughter and collaborator on the project, Leila Watts. Reflective of his own emotions and meant to pay tribute to those who were lost, THE HEART OF NEW YORK is poignant - to say the least - as it allows viewers a glimpse into the deeply tender final conversations between loved ones. It is raw on the most human level, artistic and touching. Regarding THE HEART OF NEW YORK, John states:

'The Heart of New York' was originally a song inspired by the eloquent way in which the victims of September 11 were able to communicate to their loved ones on the phone, under those terrible circumstances - simply beautiful human communication. My daughter Leila animated those words to accompany the music. I was very interested in the idea that some of the lasting legacy should be sentences and sentiments and words, rather than images of disaster. The wonders of human nature were demonstrated to me by such clear and dignified expressions of love in adversity. The animation is mine and Leila's tribute to the victims and their relatives and friends.

As John gears up for a European tour, a number of CMJ shows here in New York City and the release of new album Morethanmusic, he also celebrates his rich history with the release of a re-recorded hits collection, to be released in Europe to coincide with the tour in November." Morethanmusic's first single "HEAD ON" will release on October 17th - just prior to John's CMJ gigs. "HEAD ON," as all of John's music tends to be, is again quite personal and emotional as he draws on current social concerns, events and norms for inspiration. Motivation might be the more proper term. John's reputation for observation and contextualizing contemporary issues is uncompromised and indeed exemplified by his description of a small child watching the execution of Saddam Hussein on a mobile phone in "HEAD ON."

In an uncertain music industry John Watts is an eclectic, indefinable and clever maverick, who kicks sand in the face of confining expectations and is fearless in his exploration.
