Performing regularly on MPR's hit show, 'Wits' to critical acclaim, John Munson and The Witnesses are ready to bring their musical menagerie to the Main Street stage this February.
Few can claim to have worked in as many different styles as John Munson has over the course of his musical career. Performing in Trip Shakespeare in the late 80's, the alt-rock group Semisonic in the 90's, and currently both the minimalist jazz trio The New Standards and the soft-rock group The Twilight Hours, he still finds time to be the musical director of 'Wits' on Minnesota Public Radio, performing with his house band, The Witnesses.
The Witnesses, backing up Munson's obvious skill on the stand-up bass, are four talented musicians from many different musical backgrounds. Janey Winterbauer of Astronaut Wife and numerous other collaborative groups lends her voice, while Steve Roehm, who juggles three other bands and a teaching position at MacPhail Center for Music provides his vibraphone talents. Richard Medek, a man of many talents and musical styles, offers his prowess behind the drums, and Joe Savage brings his numerous instrumental and musical talents, primarily using his trademark pedal steel guitar. Their mix of pop and jazz in this intimate setting will have fans singing and clapping to songs both familiar and new.
Lyric Arts' "Music in the 'Burbs" series is designed to provide music fans with an up-close and personal concert experience. The 228 seat bowl-style Main Street Stage serves as a perfect venue for an intimate musical experience for both audiences and performers alike.
John Munson and The Witnesses will perform at Lyric Arts Main Street Stage on February 1st, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $21-$25 and can be purchased by calling the Lyric Arts box office at 763-422-1838 or by visiting www.lyricarts.org.
