Joe's Pub Announces Upcoming Events and Shows

JOE'S PUB at The Public Theater, set to reopen October 4th, 2011 from a top to bottom renovation, debuted in October 1998 and quickly became one of New York City's most celebrated and in-demand showcase venues for live music and performance.

With its genre-blind booking and vast diversity of interests, the stage at Joe's Pub gives voice to a world of varied and stellar artists. Joe's Pub is open seven days a week, regularly hosting as many as three shows a day. Dinner and drink service is available during every performance. The new album by Catie Curtis, Stretch Limousine On Fire, is a bold statement of beauty yet simultaneously grittier-a bit more raw-than her past work. Produced by Lorne Entress (Lori McKenna, Ronnie Earl, Mark Erelli, Mighty Sam McLain) and recorded and mixed primarily in Los Angeles by noted engineer Ryan Freeland (Ray LaMontangue, Ingrid Michaelson, The Weepies), the album features guest vocalists Lisa Loeb and Mary Chapin Carpenter along with musicians Jay Bellerose (Drums), Jennifer Condos and Jesse Williams (Bass), Thomas Juliano (electric guitar), Duke Levine (Lap Steel and guitar), David Limina (Organ) and Glenn Patscha and Julie Wolf (keyboards). Standout tracks include the title cut, "Shadowbird", "Highway del Sol" and "River Wide". Matthew Curry, a Grammy nominated artist/designer best known for his work with Thievery Corporation, illustrated the cover and designed the CD artwork.

An event dedicated to providing performance opportunities to new and innovative comics, writers, musicians, and performers, Find The Funny is a monthly show that began downtown and has moved from venue to venue as it expanded and matured.

Combining elements of its successful acoustic and café series, Acoustic Café features rising young stars such as Brown Bird (David Lamb and MorganEve Swain) and Greg Naughton (of The Sweet Remains.) Both Brown Bird and Greg Naughton display a deep knowledge of the American folk tradition, and exemplify the new wave of contemporary singer/songwriters emerging onto the scene. This promises to be a special night of music.

Sonic New York is a new project featuring the incredible vocals of Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops) who studied at Oberlin Conservatory of music and recently sang with the North Carolina Symphony. Sxip Shirey is a composer and performer who lives in New York City. His music is beautiful, surprising, deep and will twist your head right around. Ecstatic melody, unimaginable sounds and deep sexy beats played with Industrial Flutes, Bullhorn Harmonicas, Regurgitated Music Box, Triple ExtendEd Pennywhistls, Miniature Hand Bell Choir, Obnoxiophone, Glass Bowls With Red Marbles, human beat box and a clutch of curious objects.

Joseph Keckler is a singer, actor, and conceptual artist whose shows have been seen at SXSW Music, The New Museum, NP Contemporary Art Center, La MaMa ETC, NYU Performance Studies, PS122, Amsterdam's Bellevue Theatre, Dublin's International Bar, and many other venues. He is a MacDowell and Yaddo Fellow and has appeared in many traditional and experimental plays, operas, and performance pieces. Join the singer and shape-shifter as he returns home from a run in Amsterdam to introduce brand new songs and fiercely eccentric characters to NYC in this special midnight solo show.

La Santa Cecilia exemplifies the modern-day creative hybrid. In an era and city in which Latin culture has given birth to many musical fusions, The Los Angeles based six-member band creatively combines up-tempo South American rhythms like Cumbia and Bossa Nova with the nostalgic Bolero and passionate Tango, blending in Afro-Cuban percussion, Rock with Jazzy tunes to bring about a mix that defies any particular label or musical genre. The band's sound is accentuated by singer Marisoul's haunting voice, which delivers its message of love, loss and heartbreak in a strong, sensual and powerful performance that leaves crowds mesmerized and women justified in La Santa's colorful and fiesta-like live shows.

Critically acclaimed New York band Pistolera has toured its accordion-driven dance songs in six different countries since its debut in 2005. Fans around the world are dancing cumbias to the group's socially conscious songs--en español--about immigrants' rights, war, racism, feminism, and life on the border.
