September 15 via Entertainment One Music (eOne Music).
Living up to the album's title, the JUNO Award-winning musician's new record explores a sonic landscape unfettered by geography, ethnicity and musical styles to forge a unique world music hybrid. Thealbum is available for
pre-ordernow with an instant download of lead single "DoubleDutch" (currently impacting radio) and "Beyond Borders."
Recorded over two years in Toronto BEYOND BORDERS is the follow-up to 2015's One World. The new album places COOK in the driver's seat as he wrote, recorded and arranged the music, creating templates with deep emotional foundations before inviting collaborators to add nuance and shading to the compositions. "Everything on this album comes from my own experience," says COOK. "I was going through a difficult period in my life and it blew the door of my imagination wide open. I went for a huge sound, without limits. I threw away the rules, trying to find places I'd never been before, and I got there. The sad songs are sadder, the rhythms are more intricate, the sounds mashed up to look at traditional patterns in a new way."
BEYOND BORDERS is the most sonically diverse and distinctive disc in COOK'svast and varied catalog which has earned him 11 JUNO nominations and one JUNO win in the Best Instrumental Album category for 2000's Free Fall.
