Last November, Los Angeles-based Americountry troubadour Jason Hawk Harris, who enjoyed indelible success as a founding member and lead guitarist of indie folk outfit The Show Ponies, stepped into the spotlight with the release of his debut solo EP, Formaldehyde, Tobacco and Tulips.
Housing five new tunes written by Harris and produced by Andy Freeman (Eisley, Manchester Orchestra), Formaldehyde, Tobacco and Tulips was born from a season of grieving which prompted him to refer to his music as "grief grass." "It's a small collection of songs exploring the grieving process as experienced by someone who is otherwise very happy," says Harris. "Love and death are good buddies, I think."
With the EP, classically-trained composer Harris crafted a unique blend of influences to create his own brand of electrified rockicana. Inspired by a devastating personal loss shored up with hope and enduring love, each song brims with get-stuck-in-your-head lyrics and gut-punching musicality. Formaldehyde, Tobacco and Tulips is raw, edgy, and an all-out must-listen.
