Jackie Daytona's new album SHE'S SO HOT will release on Friday March 2nd via Tremolo Records. The debut album consists of 7 gritty garage-styled power pop anthems that was self-produced and mixed/mastered by Norman Matthew (Murder FM/As Strange As Angels).
In August 2012, bassist/vocalist Jackie Daytona and drummer Justin Robinson began discussing the idea of creative partnership on a drum-and-bass style record. "We kind of started it as a joke," Daytona said "because a drum and bass band would be the only way we'd get to make any decisions. I ultimately got Justin to agree that if I wrote some songs, we would make a record."
Daytona spent a year and a half writing songs, meticulously crafting the arrangements to match the sensibilities of a bass-and-drums outfit. In March 2015, The duo scraped together enough gear to record, borrowing almost everything. They set up shop in a cavernous 3,600 square foot building with 25-foot tall ceilings. The control room was tucked into an old automotive paint booth, with all of the gear situated in the main area of the room.
"We wanted to get that big, raw, old-school sound," said Robinson. "Recording where we did was a perfect match from both a creative and practical perspective. We weren't in some fancy studio. This helped create an authenticity to the playback."
The duo tracked seven songs in three days - music defined by Robinson's vintage Ludwig Vista-lite drum kit and Daytona's pair of buzzed-out bass amps. Out of these sessions came gritty, garage-styled power pop: Loud drums, loud bass, loud vocals, just ... loud.
