Three weeks ago, Jonas Brothers fans were shocked to learn the news that the trio would be canceling their upcoming tour as a result of a "deep rift within the band." Today the siblings from New Jersey confirmed to PEOPLE that they are calling it quits.
"It's over for now," revealed oldest brother Kevin. "It's really hard to say 'forever,' " added Nick. "We're closing a chapter, for sure." "It was a unanimous decision," confirmed Joe. The troubles were first revealed at an October 3rd meeting in which Nick Jonas (who recently starred in a revival of 'How to Succeed in Business' on Broadway) shared that there was dire concert about the fate of the once highly popular band. "I was feeling kind of trapped," he said. "I needed to share my heart with my brothers."The Jonas Brothers formed in 2005, and quickly gained popularity from the Disney Channel children's television network. In the summer of 2008 they starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock and it's sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. They also starred as Kevin, Joe, and Nick Lucas, the band JONAS, in their own Disney Channel series JONAS, which was later re-branded for its second and last season as Jonas L.A. The band has released four albums: It's About Time, Jonas Brothers, A Little Bit Longer, and Lines, Vines and Trying Times, with their album V due for release in 2013.
In 2008, the group was nominated for the Best New Artist award at the 51st Grammy Awards and won the award for Breakthrough Artist at the American Music Awards. As of May 2009, before the release of Lines, Vines and Trying Times, they have sold over eight million albums worldwide
