Irish grit-pop duo Thanks Brother deliver their new single, "We Caught It," from independent Blix Street Records on January 18th. A love song for the millennial age, with soaring vocals and lyrics such as "We threw our hearts on a pyre/Pretending friends/As if that was enough/Now it roars like fire it soars/And we can't pretend much longer," "We Caught It" is a perfect song to put on repeat play.
This is the second single from the band comprised of Róisín O and John Broe. Driven by O's ever present vocal force and Broe's powerful production skills, "We Caught It" is a move toward the pop side of this Irish pair's songwriting style. Co-produced and mixed by Grammy® winner Ruadhri Cushnan, whose credits include Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran and U2, this release conveys the duo's passion for emotional and relatable songwriting that can be compared to artists such as Fleetwood Mac and The Strokes and the driving beats and dynamic rhythms of Florence and The Machine and Haim.
"We Caught It" is the first of four planned single releases that will culminate with an EP in the coming months. It follows Thanks Brother's 2018 debut single, "We Are Different," which received national radio airplay in Ireland and opened the doors to national television appearances as well as shows and summer festival appearances there and in the UK. Its poignant music video, produced and directed by the pair, traces the journey of a young man coming to terms with his sexuality. The video was an Official Entry in last year's Palm Springs (CA) Cinema Diverse LGBTQ Film Festival and the Williamsburg (NYC) Independent Film Festival.
Thanks Brother is also currently editing a video for "We Caught It." In keeping with the spirit of the song--"We caught it, we caught it, we caught it bad in that bar last night when we were drunk"--the pair shot the piece on their iPhones while out on the town one night. Róisín explains: "It was a spur of the moment decision to film it while we were at the Google Christmas Party in the Royal Dublin Society... which we weren't really supposed to be at... but it all sort of fit in with the imagery of the song...doing things you're not supposed to be doing when you're drunk."
The video will be completed and available shortly. Meanwhile, Thanks Brother plans to embark on a full UK and Irish tour in March.
