Born out of the music talent management pedigree of its executive team. Los Angeles-based music video company GODLESS STUDIOS is the latest evolution of thriving commercial production partner and creative collective, Whitelist. The new studio helps its vanguard directors--Spencer Creigh, Lance Drake, Lauren Dunn,
Cameron Dutra, Pasqual Gutierrez, Mishka Kornai, John Merizalde, Anthony Pham, Joe Sill and introducing Brooke Candy--produce music videos that are now crucial to the success of artists.
GODLESS STUDIOS' approach to develop and nurture directing talent, while supporting major artists like Muse, John Legend, Jack White, Kevin Gates, Cozz and more, is unlike any other. In today's ever-changing streaming-music culture, it takes a creatively rich, renegade and nimble approach to produce the radically creative content necessary for artists to promote and define a distinct point of view for fans.
The DTLA company is helmed by Studio Executives Jerad Anderson and Seb Webber who believe that music represents the truth of our cultural mores and emotions. Creatively, the video director is becoming more important early on in the promotional stages of an album release. In the case of Godless director Lance Drake, Muse has commissioned him all the focus tracks. Anderson says, "We're seeing this more and more. It allows artists to double or triple up on productions, which creates production efficiencies. This helps directors create more impactful content through a series of videos."
Anderson and Webber's synergy sparked when both worked at the music talent management company
Red Light Management. Webber went on to be the Creative Director for Tidal, while Anderson moved into the commercial realm as Executive Producer and Founder of Whitelist. Together, they possess a background that makes them well-equipped to manage the careers of filmmaking talent and remain deeply empathetic to the artists they collaborate with, while also being adept at navigating record labels and artist management. They look for unique, collaborative and extremely driven directors when choosing to partner, nurture, and manage directing talent.
"Music videos aremore important than ever, and second-rate content just isn't cutting it anymore," explains Webber. "Audiences expect flushed out narratives and or unique and experimental creative concepts which has lead to a thriving music video production industry."
Video is simply the next step in democratization through technology where all the tools are available for anyone to use. A few years ago, everyone became a music producer. Now we see it in video production, making curation and premium content essential, and paving the way for Godless Studios.
"Godless works for everybody involved because we are protecting the filmmakers, who deserve to be paid, by fighting for the budgets they need to make videos that portray artists in the best way possible (through visual storytelling). By delivering great creative from this true understanding of directors and artists, it meets the business objectives on the management side so everybody wins."
