With members from Mexico, Japan, Norway and California, NIGHT LIGHTS brings together an eclectic assortment of indie, rock, and soul influenced sounds in an effort to make people dance and feel feelings. The Los Angeles-based band is gearing up to release a new EP titled Good Better Alright this spring and the first single, "Felicity," is out today, January 27.
Check out "Felicity" now on
Spotify and
SoundCloud. The track first premiered on
PureVolume, who noted "With elements of rock intertwined, their sound is wildly entertaining and easy to lose yourself in. Their latest single, 'Felicity,' demonstrates the band's charming nature lyrically and sonically." (1/26/17)
Of the new song, lead singer Mau Jimenez shares "'Felicity' is a song about a girl who is a personification of the word 'felicidad,' which means happiness in Spanish. So as you'd expect, the song is about happiness--about how hard happiness is to obtain, and how easy it is to get lost in all the suffering in the world. The song is an anthem to remind those of us in Night Lights, and hopefully anyone who listens, that happiness is a choice, and that it can be shared."
The members of NIGHT LIGHTS--Mau Jimenez (vocals/guitar), Yusuke Sato (guitar), Jeff Kinsey (bass) and Dag Hanken (drums)--met in 2012 while attending school in Boston, and have since discovered a balance of profound lyrics, hooky melodies, danceable music and intriguing harmonic progressions. The band's songs touch on the subject of existentialism and the confrontation of the self, hoping to discover a truth grounded in music, community, and conversation.
NIGHT LIGHTS released a series of indie pop/rock anthem singles,
"Childish,""Gimme" and
"Take My Hand," in early 2016, which earned the band praise from several music outlets, such as EarMilk, PopMatters, Baeble Music, Indie Shuffle, All Things Go, Music Times, and many more. Shortly after being released, "Childish" made its way into both the Viral 50 Global and Viral 50 U.S. Spotify charts, and has been played over 550,000 times on the platform. The band's challenges and experiences as immigrants working in the U.S. as artists and maintaining their proper visas has been shared on
PRI's "The World" and
LA Weekly, among other places.
The band's first show of 2017 will take place Wednesday, February 15 at The
Resident in Los Angeles. Tickets are available now via
Ticketfly and more live dates will be added to support the new music.
