"Blue Giant," the latest track to premiere from Ikebe Shakedown, serves as an homage to the city that has shaped their eclectic sound. In 3-and-a-half-minutes, the Brooklyn Soul veterans capture the awe and wonder that often serves as the driving rhythm behind New York City.
"The melody to 'Blue Giant' was written on the B train - during that part of the ride across the Manhattan Bridge back into Brooklyn. You've been flowing underground for a long time before suddenly shooting into this blinding light, where you can see the Statue of Liberty holding court among the shipping lanes. It's a real contrast between that majestic view of a shared ideal and the reality of being crowded with people focused on their own lives." Today's premiere is just a glimpse into what's in store for the album's October 20th release, which plays like a soundtrack for the dynamic relationship between the city and its citizens.
