According to The Hollywood Reporter' AMERICAN IDOL Season 11 champion Phillip Phillips has earned his first gold record for his single "Home." According to management and publishing company Pulse Recordings, the single has sold 523,477 units, surpassing the 500,000 number required for a gold record. The single, which was co-written and produced by Drew Pearson, sold more than 27,000 copies this week alone.

Pearson told THR that the song was chosen by Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine, who "heard it and loved it, and that was it.”  Released by Interscope, "Home" was co-written with British singer-songwriter Greg Holden and immediately set an American Idol record by selling more than 278,000 downloads in its first week, beating David Cook's 2008 single, "The Time of My Life," which sold 236,000.

Phillips is currently performing on the Idol summer tour which performed at Sprint Center in Kansas City last evening.
