Tomorrow, August 15, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will host Huey Lewis and the News at the 35th anniversary season of the Seaside Summer Concert Series at Coney Island. This is only the second time the band, which is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their chart-topping album Sports, has played in Brooklyn.

"Once again, New York City's two largest free outdoor music series will be bringing sweet summer sounds to Brooklyn for music lovers to enjoy absolutely free," said BP Markowitz. "With all-time great bands like Huey Lewis and the News, on the big stage of Brooklyn, USA-Coney Island is the place to be this summer!"

For more than three decades, the Seaside Summer Concert Series has attracted top name classic rock, pop, oldies, contemporary and Latin performers to Coney Island. This summer, the shows will again be held at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, next to the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. A limited number of $5 rental chairs in a specially designated area are available on a first come, first served basis. All shows are Thursday nights-except for the last show August 21-and all begin at 7:30pm.

Additionally, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert Series also brings a star-studded lineup of classic soul, R&B, contemporary, Caribbean and gospel artists. The free concerts are Monday nights at Wingate Field, with entrances on Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street. The public is encouraged to bring their own chairs. A limited amount of general seating is available on a first come, first served basis. The program begins at 7:30pm.

For more than twenty years, while he was a state senator, Marty Markowitz worked along with the Seaside Summer Concert Series and the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series to bring some of the best live entertainment to Brooklyn. Now as Brooklyn Borough President, he continues to host the concerts that have entertained hundreds of thousands of residents over the years.
