"Hot jazz" as it was in the era when live music was king, add in a little glamour, a little grit, and a lot of passion, and you have the electrifying Hot Sardines, appearing at The Grand on Sunday, July 5, 3pm. Tickets may be purchased at The Grand's Box Office, 2020 Postoffice Street, by calling 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or online at www.thegrand.com.

The Hot Sardines have taken the world by storm, giving voice to the history-defining jazz of the 1920s, 30s and 40s; yet, their vibrant performances bridge generations and captivate 21st century audiences. Take a blustery brass lineup, layer it over a rhythm section led by a stride-piano virtuoso in the Fats Waller vein, and tie the whole thing together with a one-of-the-boys frontwoman with a voice from another era, and you have the Hot Sardines. (We haven't even told you about the tap dancer yet.)

With a mission to transform songs from another era into pop music for this century, The Sardines fuse musical influences from New York, Paris, and New Orleans, incorporating elements from the sounds of the Prohibition Era, the Great Depression, WWII, and beyond. Their reviews say it all: "...one of the best jazz bands in NY today." (Forbes); "Consistently electrifying live" (Popmatters); "Not so much reviving standards as taking defib paddles to them and jolting them back to life." (The Patriot-Ledger)

Tickets for any or all of the performances on The Grand's Summer Season may be purchased at The Grand's Box Office, 2020 Postoffice Street, by calling 409.765.1894,

800.821.1894, or online at www.thegrand.com. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Grand 1894 Opera House is located at 2020 Postoffice Street in historic downtown Galveston's Cultural Arts District and is recognized as "The Official Opera House of the State of Texas." All major credit cards accepted.
