Herman Duo Releases HERMAN AND HERMAN Album Today, 5/6

They don't just have a name in common.  The symbiosis between the composer Jerry Herman and the actress-singer Peggy Herman runs deep, and in Herman's new recording of Herman classics, the voice and the songs do form a perfect marriage.

 

The exquisitely produced "Herman on Herman… Peggy Sings Jerry" releases on Sunday May 6.  Produced by Paul Rolnick, "Herman on Herman" features arrangements by Alex Rybeck, giving Herman's voice a vocal stage.

 

Like the show's premiere at the Metropolitan Room in May of last year, the CD release concert on Sunday May 6 at 7:30pm, at Feinstein's at the Loews Regency, 540 Park Avenue, is directed by Peter Glebo, and the nine-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune.

 

The one-night-only concert, which is produced by the performer and show business chronicler Richard Skipper, features new arrangements of songs from "Hello Dolly!" "Mame," "La Cage aux Folles," "Mack & Mabel," and other Herman hits.  In the studio, Herman and Rybeck added new songs, including "The Best of Times is Now," "Before the Parade Passes By," and "If He Walked Into My Life."

 

Backing Herman on Herman – and blending a range of popular styles, including folk-pop, smooth jazz, Brazillian and Broadway -- are Rybeck on piano, Jered Egan on bass, Steve Benson on guitar and Rex Benincasa on drums and percussion.  Sean Harkness plays guitar on the album, with orchestrations by strings, brass, and winds.
