In anticipation of her upcoming album Pony Show, Kansas City based singer-songwriter Heidi Lynne Gluck has released her second track "Pony Show" today via The Bluegrass Situation. Gluck says of the track, "the song 'Pony Show' is another variation on the album's theme of seeking freedom while feeling trapped between one life and another". The debut full length LP, produced, composed, and recorded by Gluck, is slated for release on August 26 via Lotuspool Records.
The soft vocals and longing lyrics in "Pony Show" demonstrate Gluck's ability to transport listeners, taking cues from the tradition of her heroes and fellow Canadian exports, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, and Neil Young. Her sophisticated arrangements provide a strong foundation for melancholy lyrics sung with a delicate, self-assured, and authentic voice, a hallmark on the forthcoming album. Pony Show's narrative touches on perseverance amid the captivity of love, loss, and limbo.
Gluck released her first solo EP, "The Only Girl In The Room" in 2015, which featured her understated vocal style, clever arrangements, and confessional lyrics. Having collaborated with
Juliana Hatfield's Some Girls, Margo & the
Nuclear So and Sos, Lily & Madeline, Simrit, and many more, Gluck is a veteran player and session musician who has offered bass, guitar, piano, keys, background vocals, accordion, and lap steel on over 30 albums.
Check out both tracks "Pony Show" and "Mercury Rising" and keep an eye out for Pony Show available on August 26 in physical and digital formats.
