Kids Rock Cancer is proud to partner with The Fabulous Fox Theatre for a benefit concert featuring the popular band Heart on Tuesday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Ann and Nancy Wilson stormed the charts in the '70's with hits like "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," "Barracuda," "Straight On," and so many more. The Wilson sisters proved that women could lead a band, write the songs and play the instruments too, making them the first women in rock to do so. Heart continued topping the charts through the '80's and '90's with huge hits like "These Dreams," "Alone," "What About Love," "If Looks Could Kill," "Never," and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters' enormous talents as musicians, singers and songwriters. This new millennium showed them back in the charts again, with top charting albums "Red Velvet Car" and "Fanatic."
Along the way, Heart has sold more than 35 million albums, sold out arenas worldwide, and become an important part of the soundtrack of American life through radio, motion pictures, television, and associations with branded sponsors. Today, songs made famous by Heart are heard in every aspect of contemporary culture, and performed live in front of hundreds of thousands of fans annually.
"We are proud to partner with Kids Rock Cancer to bring music, love and hope to St Louis. Rock On!" says Ann and Nancy Wilson.
Kids Rock Cancer is an innovative music therapy program that helps children successfully cope with the emotional challenges that occur when they or a loved one have been diagnosed with a cancer. Using music as a therapeutic tool, Kids Rock Cancer helps those combat feelings of anxiety, depression, uncertainty and helplessness. The program provides a vehicle for self-expression; a sense of self-esteem and accomplishment; a distraction from the physical and emotional pain; and a sense of joy and optimism.
Created and overseen by the Music Therapy? program at Maryville University - the only degree program of its kind in St. Louis - Kids Rock Cancer brings the joy and healing power of music to children at cancer treatment and support centers throughout the St. Louis area. During a session, children work with a board-certified music therapist to compose an original song expressing their thoughts and feelings, and record it on a CD to take home, share and cherish.
Since Kids Rock Cancer began in 2009, more than 500 kids have written and recorded over 450 songs. Current program sites include: SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital; St. Louis Children's Hospital; Mercy Hospital St. Louis; Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis; and Ronald McDonald House. Special group sessions also take place at Camp Rainbow (for children with cancer) and Camp Crescent (for children with sickle cell disease), with more locations to come.
Individual tickets for the Heart concert will be available, as well as special packages that include a VIP pre-party and a post-party featuring an exclusive chocolate showcase by Bissinger's. Special limited packages also include autographed CDs and the opportunity for a meet-and-greet with Heart.
