The next city on Gustavo Dudamel's "Americas" tour with the Vienna Philharmonic is Mexico City at the Pallacio de Bellas Artes on March 2-3, 2018. The "Americas" tour began at Carnegie Hall in New York and will visit Buenos Aires, Bogota, and Santiago de Chile. The tour symbolizes the culture of unity between North, Central, and South America at a time of division, and the power of music to inspire young people.
As part of this tour, Mexico's Sistema Nacional de Fomento Musical and the Mexican composer, Arturo Marquez, are partnering with the Dudamel Foundation to host a four-day orchestra workshop for young people from the Americas. Young musicians from Canada, the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, and Chile will play together in a concert at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. Harmony Program from New York has selected five of its top musicians to be a part of this meaningful tour: Angelo Chery (17, violin); Christele Cherestal (16, violin); Luigi Auquilla (14, violin); Thanddnes Palmer (15, trumpet); and, Justin Laurenceau (17, trombone). All students are from the Harmony Program's All Stars, a selective training and mentoring program with the New York Philharmonic.
Anne Fitzgibbon, the founder and Executive Director of the Harmony Program, will attend. Both she and the students will be available for interviews.
At Harmony Program, music changes lives every day. Through collective music making, children from underserved communities explore new avenues and realize their full potential. Specially trained teachers guide students from beginner group instruction to orchestral performance, building life skills and community from a shared love of music.
