Great Moments in Vinyl celebrates those memorable albums in our collective cultural consciousness by performing them live and accompanying them with the stories and images of how the music came to be. In their Martyrs' debut, Great Moments in Vinyl charts the arc of two legendary albums from the career of Bruce Springsteen tonight, Aug. 5th.

Time was, rock musicians didn't simply record songs, they crafted experiences in sound that began when the needle found the groove on Side 1 and led listeners on an emotional and spiritual journey that took them through to the end of Side 2. Creating an album was a craft. And the history of rock 'n' roll is rife with tales of musicians who labored months in the studio to find just the right drum sound, just the right guitar setting, just the right groove. Was it worth it? Who can deny that when the pieces were finally assembled, the results were sublime!

Great Moments in Vinyl will chart the arc of two legendary albums from the career of Bruce Springsteen. His second release, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, followed hard on the heels of his major label debut and offered him the chance to prove he was more than just the new Dylan. His dreams were big, but sales of that album were less than modest. By album number three, Springsteen?s record company threatened to sever their relationship if he didn't find an audience for his music. In a desperate bid to save his career and realize his musical vision, Springsteen went back into the studio and produced the masterpiece that made him a legend, Born to Run.

Great Moments in Vinyl performs tonight, August 5th at Martyrs, (3855 N. Lincoln Ave.). Showtime is 8pm, tickets are $7 and available online at www.martyrslive.com.
