The title song of his most recent album, Que Suenen Los Tambores (Let the Drums Be Heard), is an out-of-the-box radio smash that has become a dance anthem for the Spanish-speaking world. Manuelle's great themes of amor y desamor - love and its disappearance - are more typically associated with ballad singing, but as a salsa singer, Manuelle balances the two elements to huge appeal.
Contemporary and classic, his repertoire incorporates international musical touches while relying on his greatest strength: his power as a sonero (improvising singer) in the traditional Puerto Rican style.
A top concert draw, Manuelle has had an incredible 42 charting singles on theBillboard Hot Latin Songs and 25 No. 1 Latin Tropical Airplay singles. He has received four Billboard Latin Music Awards and the ASCAP Golden Note Award. Known as "El Sonero de Juvenud" (The Sonero of Youth), he was mentored by
Gilberto Santa Rosa and was the first major salsa singer to experiment with reggaetón.
Manuelle gave an emotionally charged performance of Celia Cruz's signature song "La Vida es un Carnaval" at her funeral in 2003, and sang it two months later in an all-star tribute to Cruz on CBS' live telecast of the Latin Grammys. NJPAC
