Grosse Pointe, Michigan -- Renowned singer Barbara Morrison, a Michigan native who has been nominated for a Grammy Award in 2015, will perform with the Sean Dobbins Trio at the Dirty Dog Jazz Club in Grosse Pointe on Feb. 13-14.

Morrison was nominated for a Grammy along with Ernie Andrews on the "LA Treasures Project" as the featured vocalists with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra in the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album category. The 57th annual Grammy awards will be presented on Feb. 8. It was Morrison's third Grammy nomination. She was nominated for her vocals with Johnny Otis' The Spirit of Black Territory Band in 1982 and in 1999 for producing a jazz album for Al McKibbon.

The Los Angeles-based Morrison was born in Ypsilanti and graduated from Romulus High School. Her latest CD release, "I Love You, Yes I Do," featuring saxophonist Houston Person reached No. 4 on the JazzWeek.com national chart last July. It spent three straight weeks in the top 10 and eight in the top 20 after being released in June. The CD includes "And I Love Him" written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, "For the Love of You" written by the Isley Brothers and Christopher Jasper and "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. They are examples of her powerful and soulful ability to adapt to a wide range of songs.

Morrison also does songs originally done by Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday and many other stars. She has performed with Ray Charles, Etta James, Nancy Wilson, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme and Dizzy Gillespie in her career and has been featured in over 20 recordings.

Morrison has played to sold-out performances the Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the Detroit Jazz Festival last year. She'll be accompanied by Sean Dobbins on drums, Tad Weed on piano and Kurt Krahnke on bass at the Dirty Dog Jazz Café.

Morrison and the Dobbins trio will perform from 6-8 and 8-10:30 p.m. on both nights.

The Dirty Dog Jazz Café is located at 97 Kercheval in Grosse Pointe. Its phone number is 313-882-5299. There is a $25 cover charge for the Morrison/Dobbins performances.
