Thirteen years after launching the highly influential, award-winning music blog Gorilla vs. Bear, Chris Cantalini takes on the role of label owner with the launch of Luminelle Recordings. Luminelle is a partnership between the Gorilla vs. Bear founder and Fat Possum Records' distribution company House Arrest Distribution. A passionate and trusted tastemaker of independent music, Cantalini's discoveries are on constant display throughout the online independent music world, from his weekly Sirius XMU show launched in 2006, to his daily postings on his site. Cantalini envisions Luminelle existing in the same way Gorilla vs. Bear does - good music, all the time.
Cantalini spoke with Billboard about Luminelle - read about it now.
"When Peter Wiley of Fat Possum's House Arrest label group approached me about starting this new endeavor, I was immediately excited about the unique opportunity to run the artist-friendly label I envisioned on my terms, with the full support of such an experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic team," explains Cantalini. "As a long-time fan and supporter of emerging independent music, I'm especially psyched about the chance to collaborate with artists I love in a more meaningful and multifaceted way. The motivation behind Luminelle is to help create something that will not only be a reflection of the vision for which GvsB has come to be known, but will stand out and endure as something special on its own."
