Reworking any Nirvana track is a risky business - akin to tampering with a musical holy grail - but when it's done well it can create a truly mind-blowing piece of house music, which is exactly what South African duo Goldfish have done with "Heart Shaped Box".

Already winning a swathe of top flight DJ support, the remake features 18-year-old Cape Town native Julia Church on vocals and sees Dom Peters and Dave Poole crafting a new future house-influenced bass line to their trademark sound of organic instrumentals. Her mature voice lilts effortlessly over muted organs and swelling synths, giving the lyrics body and strength that work with, not against, full-bodied piano and saxophone sections.
Out today on iTunes worldwide and scheduled for an October 30th Beatport release, "Heart Shaped Box" will no doubt form a pivotal part of Goldfish's performance tonight at the legendary De Overkant in Amsterdam. The Live In Amsterdam event, one of the must-see parties on the ADE circuit, sold out two weeks ago underlining the huge demand to catch a glimpse of Goldfish. In recent months their popularity has soared, with punishing club and festival tours putting them firmly on the map in the notoriously hard-to-crack US market.
With two more dates left Stateside - Ghost Ship Halloween in San Francisco on October 30th and Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak FL on October 31st - the band will also headline at London's Electric Brixton onOctober 17th before traveling to the Czech Republic to perform at Club Freda in Brno (October 23rd) and Prague's Akropolis (October 24th). Fans back in South Africa won't have to wait long to see their award-winning, chart-topping heroes in action either. Goldfish return to Cape Town on November 29th to start their annual and hotly anticipated Submerged Sundays residency at Shimmy Beach Club.
Goldfish ft. Julia Church "Heart Shaped Box" is out now on iTunes Worldwide through Sony Music (SA) and Goldfish Music (ROW).
