Acclaimed Indian-American vocalist, songwriter, producer and composer Sid Sriram premieres "6 Weeks" today-listen here.
The song is the second to debut from Sriram's forthcoming debut album Entropy, following last month's "It Isn't True." Entropy is set for release in early 2019.
"'6 Weeks' is broken up into two sections; both sections use the same set of samples, just in different ways," says Sriram. "The first half is driven by an aggressive drum groove, as I allow listeners into the frenetic nature of my thoughts. Starting with the lyrics, 'Only scared of myself and the truth in the stars / I'm a king, I'm the dirt, God within me shine', the first half of '6 Weeks' delves into my attempts to balance the notion that I have an existential purpose with the realization that I am nothing against the vastness of the universe. Suddenly, as if to break the trance of my thought process, the groove shifts and leads us into the second half. The remainder of the piece is supported with lush soundscapes that feel like warm, nostalgic waves, as I explore the emotional cascade that hit me when someone significant from my past suddenly re-entered my life."
Additionally, Sriram confirms his first ever North American headline tour, kicking off March 6 in Vancouver, with further dates in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle,Toronto, Boston and beyond. Tickets are on sale today at 10:00 a.m. local time, visitwww.sidsriram.com for more information.
"6 Weeks" arrives on Artist Originals (AO), an in-house artist development program and record label launched by Saavn, the world's leading music streaming company for South Asian music and artists.
Born in Chennai, India, and raised in the California suburbs (his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area when he was a year old), Sriram is trained in the Carnatic tradition of South Indian Classical music while simultaneously influenced by western pop and R&B. Going on to earn a Music Production and Engineering degree from Berklee College of Music, Sriram honed his skills as a multi-instrumentalist and learned how to produce, compose and arrange his own work.
Discovered by Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer and global music icon A.R. Rahman and known in South Asia for his film work, Sriram has long been inspired by R&B and global contemporary sounds. Raised between the Bay Area and India, some of Sriram's earliest influences include Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Jeff Buckley and the Beatles.
This latest track follows Sriram's previous releases, which have received critical acclaim from The FADER, the BBC and more.
