"One Night of Queen," a tribute to the 1970s 'glam rock' band Queen, will be performed by Gary Mullen and The Works at the Gallo Center for the Arts at 7:30 pm on Thursday, February 27. It is the second appearance by the band at the Gallo Center, the first being a sold-out show in March 2011.
Tickets for the concert are $19 to $64, and may be purchased online at
www.galloarts.org, by calling
(209) 338-2100, or at the Gallo Center ticket office at 1000 I Street in downtown Modesto.
In 2000, Mullen competed on "Stars in Their Eyes," a British television talent show in which contestants impersonate show business stars. An uncanny look-alike and sound-alike to Queen's lead singer,
Freddie Mercury, Mullen won the contest by a record number of votes. Subsequently he formed his band, The Works, and began touring internationally with "One Night of Queen."
As described on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame website, "Queen represented rock's bombastic pinnacle. Melding glam-rock with hard-rock, the group's ornate, multi-tracked recordings and in-your-face songs resulted in worldwide sales of more than 130 million records."
Mullen and his band capture the music and showmanship of Queen by faithfully reproducing such hits as "We Will Rock You," "We Are the Champions," and "Bohemian Rhapsody."
"One Night of Queen" is presented by Doubletree by Hilton Modesto and sponsored by Budweiser Black Crown.
