GUYS ON ICE Comes to DL Parsons Theatre

Northglenn Arts has announced a special engagement of GUYS ON ICE, March 4-6 at the DL Parsons Theatre. GUYS ON ICE is produced by the Aurora Fox, and written by Fred Alley and James Kaplan.

Aurora Fox's heartfelt production details the distinctive subculture of Wisconsin ice fisherman. The comedy is a straight-forward look into a chilly rural world where ice fishing and the Green Bay Packers are among life's most important cornerstones. For Marvin and Lloyd, the show's two lead characters, the ice offers the sanctuary of a church and the escape of a neighborhood bar. It's a place where life's most critical questions find resolution in the simplest ways.

Since 1998, GUYS ON ICE has played to sold-out houses in Ephraim, Sturgeon Bay, Green Bay, Milwaukee and Madison and played for audiences as far away as California, New York, and Oregon. Fred Alley wrote the following description for the original 1998 program: "You've seen them. Little wooden shanties sitting on lake ice. Puffs of smoke rising from chimney pipes. On a quiet day, maybe the static of a tinny radio filters through plywood walls, across the frozen tundra, back to shore. In a cold world, on a cold day, on a frozen lake, these little signs of life are all most people know of a secret culture that thrives right here among us. Well, wonder no more. Once again, AFT sets its sights close to home as we bring you our somewhat twisted take on the secret world of ice fisherman. Guys on Ice spends a day in the life of Marvin and Lloyd - fishing buddies and home-grown philosophers. With musical numbers like, "The Wishing Hole," "Ode to a Snowmobile Suit," "Fish is the Miracle Food" and "The One That Got Away," Guys on Ice works not only as a serious anthropological study but as a musical comedy as well."

Three performances will be held Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 pm; and Sunday, March 6 at 2 pm. Tickets are priced at $12 for adults, $10 for youth and seniors. The D.L. The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) is a 501(c)3 organization that provides funding for quality youth theatre, public art, and other cultural endeavors in our community. NAHF was founded in 1990. The D.L. Parsons Theatre is a 302-seat venue owned and operated by the City of Northglenn located ½ mile south of 120th Ave. and Grant St. in Northglenn, Colorado.
