Bumble, the female-first social networking app with over 27 million global users, is hosting Bumble Presents: Empowering Connections, a two-day activation at the 2018 South by Southwest® (SXSW®) conference on March 9 -10 at Fair Market.
Bumble has announced GRAMMY-nominated group HAIM will culminate the Bumble Presents: Empowering Connections activation with a performance on March 10th. The group will perform a number of hits, including songs off their latest record "Something to Tell You," to conclude the two-day event.
Broadway star and author Keke Palmer and Bumble Founder and CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd will lead Friday's keynote titled "#MeToo, #TimesUp, Now What?". Palmer and Wolfe Herd will discuss female-lead global movements, including #MeToo and #TimesUp, as well as gender disparities.
"As our reach has expanded globally, we're more committed than ever to leveraging our platform to create a much needed conversation around gender equality, female empowerment, and the power of technology. This brilliant and talented line-up at 'Empowering Connections' share those same values and a dedication to making a real and lasting impact in the areas where women have been traditionally marginalized," said Whitney Wolfe Herd.
Friday's second keynote will feature the independent Spotify sensation and pop singer-songwriter FLETCHER, Ali Tamposi, GRAMMY-nominated writer of Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)", Wolves, Havana, and Let Me Love You, and GRAMMY-nominated producer and writer of Andra Day's "Rise Up," Jennifer Decilveo. The trio will speak on the Songwriters: Making Music That Unites a Movement panel, share the inspiration behind their powerful songs, and perform an acoustic set.
Pop singer-songwriter and artist Era Noble will close the evening on Friday with a performance.
Founder and CEO of Rachel Zoe, Inc. Rachel Zoe joins the daytime panel line-up on Friday March 9th and Hatecopy artist and writer Maria Qamar will speak on Saturday the 10th. Previously announced panelists and speakers include: Chief Content Officer of them and Teen Vogue Phillip Picardi; activist and author Aija Mayrock; author of "Boss Bride" and Essence Senior Editor Charreah Jackson; founder of Bleubird, co-founder of Mother, and creative director/co-founder of Two Son, James Kicinski-McCoy; Bumble Sociologist and relationship expert Dr. Jess Carbino; filmmaker and producer Yoruba Richen; and Nha Khanh designer Khanh Nguyen.
The activation is open March 9th and 10th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to SXSW badge holders and Bumble users. Keynotes and musical performances will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily and are limited to SXSW badge holders.
