GIRLSCHOOL, the highly popular L.A.-based interdisciplinary festival celebrating women-identified artists, thinkers, professionals and creators, is expanding to New York City. It will take place at Industry City Courtyard 1/2 (274 36th Street) in Brooklyn on October 6-7, in partnership with Girlie Action and City Farm Presents. GIRLSCHOOL is a music festival and creative community based in Los Angeles, whose mission is to celebrate, connect, and lift women-identified artists, leaders, and voices. Fans will recall GIRLSCHOOL LA 2018 is where the viral video of Fiona Apple performing alongside Shirley Manson in a homemade "KNEEL, PORTNOW" shirt took place. Festival line-up coming soon.
Founded by Anna Bulbrook (band member/multi-instrumentalist, the Airborne Toxic Event; violinist, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Beyoncé's LEMONADE, Kanye West, Vampire Weekend, Sia, and more) in response to how few women she saw onstage in the alternative rock and festival worlds, GIRLSCHOOL has grown into a vibrant network of women-identified artists, leaders, and voices who have formed an empowering and visible community for one another while supporting women and girls. A portion of the proceeds from every ticketed GIRLSCHOOL event benefits a girl-positive 501c3.
