Fruitlands Museum has announced the 2015 Summer Concert Series, presented on Thursday nights at 7:15PM, June 18 through August 6. This year's stellar line-up features the award winning The Concord Band; the crowd-pleasing jazzy jive blues group The Love Dogs & the folk rock band Black Marmot.
Admission is $10/car for Museum Members, $15/car for Nonmembers. Season discount passes are available: $50 Members, $75 Nonmembers-pick any 6 concerts to attend. Bring your blanket, lawn chairs and picnic baskets or purchase food from one of our food vendors. Beer and wine will be available on site. On June 18, The Concord Band kicks off their 30th six-week season at Fruitlands! Performing together since 1959, the band consists of 65 musicians from more than 40 area towns. This year, Concord Band will treat concertgoers to a deep roster of timeless music, including pieces memorializing historic events, show tunes, holiday favorites and more. The July 9th concert, "From Broadway to Hollywood" will be the night of the popular annual picnic contest when audience members are invited to bring the most elaborate picnic and win a special prize! The July 30th concert will bring back another group that is quickly becoming a concert tradition-The Love Dogs. With its mix of jazz and jive, this energetic band brings the crowd to its feet every year. Voted "Best New England Band" by Blues Audience magazine, the Dogs are part Rat Pack party, part 20th-century musical encyclopedia, and part revival meeting. The New York Post says "Even though the music could make Leonardo's David dance, it's the songwriting that separates these dogs from the rest of the pack" and Blues Review agrees "If there were a Superbowl for crowd pleasing rhythm & blues, a photo of The Love Dogs would be on every Wheaties box in America." Black Marmot will close the summer series on August 6. They will delight the audience with their infectious folk rock tunes. Experimenting with ukulele, complicated harmonies, and even the addition of the rare bass VI, Black Marmot is bound to cast a spell over one and all. Hailing from Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston, Black Marmot has been performing their unique adaptations of folk, blues and rock music since 2009. "Working a sound solidly anchored in folk, roots and pop, but fusing elegant harmonies, fluid musicianship and eclectic arrangements/instruments, Black Marmot has a unique and fetching appeal," says The New London Day. SUMMER SOLSTICE FARM TO FORK DINNER
Join us in the field at Fruitlands for the 3rd annual Farm to Fork dinner. We'll say adieu to our centennial year and celebrate the beginning of our 101st while supporting Fruitlands Museum's educational programs.
The evening will begin with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres under the tent and tours of the museum buildings., followed by outdoor dining under a summer sky on a delicious locally-sourced dinner provided by Fireside Catering from Gibbet Hill Grill in Groton, along with wine and live music. Fruitlands Museum, founded in 1914 by Clara Endicott Sears, takes its name from an experimental utopian community led by Bronson Alcott and Charles Lane that existed on this site in 1843.
