Freedom Fry Share New Single CLASSIC From Debut LP Out June 1 Image

Los Angeles based alt-folk duo Freedom Fry are preparing to release their highly anticipated debut album Classic on June 1st. Today, they share the first single and title track "Classic". Reminiscent of a warm, sun-soaked afternoon, the track fuses danceable rhythms with the infectious feel-good sound that they have become known for. Freedom Fry comments:

"Classic was one of those melodies that just popped into our heads one day and wouldn't go away. The lyrics paint a semi-serious picture of all the cliché things we can't help but love about LA. It's also about feeling like maybe you were born in the wrong time, which we sometimes do.

When we were recording the song it was important for us to add in all the elements that made a song 'classic' to us. The stuff that gave us chills when we listened to our favorite songs - like soaring string arrangements and horns. We approached Phillip Peterson, one of our favorite string arrangers who's done a lot of work with Portugal. The Man, and asked if he'd be willing to come up with some strings for it. When he sent us back his arrangement we were absolutely floored.

The same goes for the trumpet playing of Stewart Cole, of Edward Sharpe. He played all the trumpet on the song. Usually we play all of the instruments on our songs ourselves, but the fact that we had all of these people contribute to the song let's us listen back with a whole new perspective."

Composed of Parisian-born Marie Seyrat and Michigan-born Bruce Driscoll, Freedom Fry has independently amassed over 50 million streams on Spotify and earned numerous #1 appearances on HypeMachine. Earlier this month, they shared a #girlpower version of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' "Man On Fire," which is featured in the new animated film from Intuit, racking up over 20 million views to date.

Freedom Fry's music, which heavily bleeds the warmth and sunshine of their home state of California, skirts the lines between pop, folk, and alt rock and can be heard in over 50 films, shows, and commercials including Judd Apatow's Love, Showtime's Shameless, Grey's Anatomy, and in high-profile ads for fashion labels such as Lanvin and Madewell. They have performed in Europe and throughout the U.S. with the likes of Stromae, Phantogram, and X Ambassadors.
