Massey Hall presents Lunchtime Live! will continue with a bounty of artists performing every Monday from 12:30-1:30pm, including DATU, a modern Filipino tribal music crew on June 1.
On June 8, kLoX will hit the Square with their classical Tabla and Violin, aided by computer performance technology for a sonically explosive soundscape.
On June 15, classically-trained Cree cellist, Cris Derkson will weave traditional, classical and contemporary music for a captivating performance of the ultimate mash-up.
Toronto loves movies, and free movies even more! Every Tuesday night at sunset (approximately 9pm), YDS will transform into an open-air movie theatre for MINI Canada presents City Cinema: BUT CAN THEY ACT? Music Icons in Film. Each City Cinema screening in the Square will be preceded by a short concert film from the Live at Massey Hall concert series of such Canadian artists as Shad (June 16), Timber Timbre (June 23) and Cœur de Pirate (June 30).
On June 16, 8 Mile (2002) starring Eminem, Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy and Kim Basinger features a young rapper struggling to break into the world of underground hip-hop.
The double bill on June 23 begins with The Hunger (1983) starring David Bowie, Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve in an erotic horror film that follows the love triangle of a doctor and vampire duo. Immediately following The Hunger is Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars (1973), a documentary, also starring David Bowie, which captures the moments leading up to Ziggy Stardust's final concert.
On June 30, A Star is Born (1976) starring Barbara Streisand, Kris Kristofferson and Gary Busey is the classic love story of an aging rock star and a young, up-and-coming songstress.
Finally, one of Toronto's favourite ways to jump into the weekend is with Virgin Mobile presents Indie Fridays every Friday night at 8pm. Opening the Indie Fridays season on June 26, in association with PRIDE Toronto, is the Tony-nominated and world-renowned writer, singer, painter, performance artist, and activist Mx Justin Vivian Bond.
