On November 22 at 7:30 PM, The Ware Center, 42 North Prince Street, Lancaster, PA proudly presents its second in a yearlong series of jazz cabarets: "Tribute to the Great Jazz Pianists" with the FrEd Hughes Trio. The trio features Hughes on piano. Keith Mohler on bass and Frank Russo on drums. The FrEd Hughes Trio will highlight the works of great pianists such as Keith Jarret, Chick Correa, Oscar Peterson, John Lewis and others, interpreting hits such as "Billy Boy," "Ballad of the Sad Young Men," "Django" and "Cappachino"

FrEd Hughes, a Lancaster, Pennsylvania native, started his career as a keyboard and low brass player, playing in community bands and jazz ensembles across the state of Pennsylvania. It was during his work with the Eighth Army Band in Seoul, Korea and the First Army Band in Fort Meade, Maryland, that Hughes was recognized as a world class jazz pianist and an up and coming conductor by the age of twenty-five.

Hughes has performed with the Baltimore and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, as well as jazz greats Claudio Roditi, Al Cohn, Arturo Sandoval, Roy Hargrove, and Toots Thielemans. When not behind the piano, Hughes has conducted the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, the Atlanta and Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestras, Washington and Chicago Lyric Opera orchestras and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He was also the musical director for the Three Mo' Tenors.

As an educator, Hughes was the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at Shepherd College and has also taught at the middle school and high school levels. Hughes has done many clinics and workshops at conferences for the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) and many more. He has also written the book, The Jazz Pianist: Left Hand Voicings and Chord Theory. He has also composed many pieces of music such as New Day Dawning, and Out of the Blue.
