Shedding light on Brighton's buzzing music scene, rap/production duo Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn return with their new single 'Black Water', the lead track of their eagerly anticipated EP release, 'The Lakes'.
In his signature production style, Harvey Gunn forms a synth-layered beat that is laced with a punchy bass, to create something ethereal and moody. With his continuous flow of pensive lyrics,Frankie Gunn shines a light on the ordinary in a way which makes it brilliant, akin to everyman hero Mike Skinner.
'Black Water' is taken from the pair's upcoming 'The Lakes' EP, a 7-track production packed with fresh music set to drop on 22nd March. The EP showcases the duo's unmistakable chemistry, and includes 'Easy Looking', a track featuring the talents of multifaceted artist Murkage Dave.
Taking a trip up to the Lake District to make most of the EP project, Harvey explains: 'the surroundings and isolation were very inspiring and let us create music that was in that moment'. For Frankie, the trip was an opportune moment for him to be more open, as he says 'I feel like I express myself in a way I haven't ever been able to'.
Influenced by multiple genres including classic hip-hop, modern urban, UK garage and dance music, the Brighton natives cite Kano, MJ Cole, The Streets and OutKast amongst their musical inspirations. They have been honing their signature sound since their teenage years, building a cult following through a strong catalogue of album releases. Through recent singles that include garage-influenced bop 'Coconuts', Frankie and Harvey have seeped into industry consciousness with support across BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra from DJ Target, Huw Stephens andChilly Gonzales.
After previously joining Loyle Carner and Slum Village on their respective UK tours, the pair will embark on their own 8-date UK tour this month, kicking things off at Birmingham's Hare and Hounds venue on 27th March. With further dates across Liverpool, London, Manchester, Bristol, Southampton and Nottingham, they will round off the tour with a performance atBelgrave Music Hall in Leeds on Saturday 6th April.
