Today, Detroit's Flint Eastwood (Jax Anderson) releases her hotly-anticipated Broke Royalty EP here via Neon Gold Records (Christine And The Queens, Charli XCX) and headlines a hometown release show at Detroit's historic Fisher Building, kicking off a US tour that includes Sasquatch, Bonnaroo, Electric Forest and Lollapalooza this spring + summer (tour dates below).
The EP is highlighted by lead single, "Rewind", featuring fellow Detroit-native and electronic heavyweight GRiZ, which premiered today via This Song Is Sick, who writes: "Refreshing...Flint Eastwood, has been on the rise with undeniably unique tracks"
Anderson elaborates: "Rewind is about the innocence of youth. When you're young, like little kid young, you have such an honest and untainted perspective on life. It's a beautiful thing. It's a time when love is just love, no labels or expectations, and all you care about is having fun and living life to the fullest.
I originally wrote this track as a hail mary for GRiZ's last record. He hit me up a few days before they were starting to mix "Good Will Prevail" about an instrumental he really wanted on the record, but it needed a vocalist. I was touring at the time and pretty much the only time I could finish it was way early in the morning the day before it was due. I got in the studio and knocked it out in about 2 hours with my collaborator, SYBLYNG. Grant loved it, but it ultimately didn't fit the vibe of his record. A few months later I got a text from Grant saying I should release it on my new EP, and I was in."
Additionally, the EP finds production support from MUTEMATH's Paul Meany, as well as a track with principal BØRNS collaborator Tommy English.
In January, Flint Eastwood's empowerment anthem "Queen" was released ahead of the Women's Marches across the nation. In March, she was hailed as one of the breakout acts of SXSW. Following the conference,
Huw Stephens at BBC Radio 1 declared her "absolutely incredible" ahead of his world premiere of "Push" featuring Tunde Olaniran. Listen

Jax has always been carving out her own path. In 2015, she helped co-found
Assemble Sound, a collaboration studio space for Detroit musicians to meet, find resources, and ultimately create good art. They raised funds, purchased a church from the 1870's, and renovated it as a community. This is the space where
Flint Eastwood writes and records her music, the space that sparked the idea for Broke Royalty.
