Living up to their reputation of aesthetic perfection, Swedish-Belgian duo Victoria+Jean release yet another impeccable video for "Where We Belong", premiering on Paste. Directed by Philippe Carron, the (literally) explosive yet delicate visuals echo the juxtaposition of the gritty muscle behind Jean's guitar and Victoria's polished yet urgent vocals. Credited by Louder than War with a "fierce, visceral, blues howl," lead singer Victoria is the "kind of goddess who will own indie rock in one year." Starting off in a dusty attic hideout and traveling down to rocky ocean cliffs, sand and dancers swirling in the air, the lovers act as outlaws and allow us a glimpse into their escape. Victoria describes the song as "about the world being dictated by a religious man saying we'd lost our souls and that we have no reason to be, or live...Meaning we have to leave those we love left behind and say goodbye...but wherever we go, there's just no place, there's no mountain, no town, nothing for us...And so this man pushes the world to it's destruction and we start counting the seconds. There's no place for us."
The musical duo and real-life couple originates in Europe, but their story spans over the entire globe. Rough around the edges but still reeking of glamour, Victoria+Jean is what would happen if The White Stripes were decked out in haute couture and Meg took the spotlight. The dark drama and romance of Victoria+Jean will come into full bloom with the release of their debut full-length, Divine Love, on April 29.Videos
