Erik Deutsch Releases FALLING FLOWERS Album Today On LoHi Records Image

Keyboardist, bandleader and collaborator Erik Deutsch has released his sixth album, Falling Flowers, today via LoHi Records - listen via Soundcloud. Glide Magazine premiered Falling Flowersin full ahead of its release earlier this week, noting that the album "combines haunting and healing grooves along with tenacious songwriting chops that keep listeners discovering more upon each listen."

Falling Flowers is full of willfully uncategorizable compositions that combine jazz, funk, country and rock into a swirling, raucous blend that jumps, struts, croons and shouts. The album was recorded at Trout Recording in Brooklyn, with engineers Bryce Goggin and Adam Sachs and mixed by Jeff Hill (Rufus Wainwright, Elle King) at Bass Station.

The band on Falling Flowers is a mixture of longtime acquaintances and kindred spirits, including Mike McGinnis (saxophone and clarinet), Brian Drye (trombone), Avi Bortnick (rhythm guitar), Jesse Murphy (bass), and Tony Mason (drums). In addition to these core players, two special guests appear. Scott Metzger plays lead guitar on "Falling Flowers" and "Big Bongos", and Andy Thorn, Deutsch's band-mate in Leftover Salmon, contributes banjo to "Ghostfeather" and "Falling Flowers."

You can witness the magic that took place at Trout Recording HERE, with a 7-camera live studio video of the album version of track "Scrach Out". The video features an energetic piano solo from Deutsch, along with drumming by Tony Mason, bass by Jesse Murphy, a horn section-Mike Mcginnis and Bryan Drye, and a wicked guitar solo by Avi Bortnick.

On the track, Erik remarks, "I remember the debut of 'Scratch Out' at Bar Lunatico back in the summer of 2016--it seemed like something that immediately stuck with the audience. Since the final version we printed on the album was almost entirely live from this take, the video provides a really cool, up-close look at this song, shot masterfully by Ehud Lazin."

Over the last two decades plus, Deutsch has earned a stellar reputation as a bandleader and collaborator, working with artists like Steven Bernstein, Theo Bleckmann, Rosanne Cash, Nels Cline, Charlie Hunter, Shooter Jennings, Norah Jones, Leftover Salmon, Shelby Lynne, and many, many more.

Deutsch will be performing a small run of Falling Flowers release shows in the fall. A full list of dates can be found below.
