It was a cold night in New York City, but two-time EMMY Award Winning ViolinistDamien Escobar heated things up at New World Stages for the Third Annual Global Spin Awards, airing on REVOLT TVTuesday, November 25 th at 8:00PM EST. Always elevating the bar, Damien is the first violinist in history to ever open a major awards show, and he did so with iconic DJ Z-Trip (L.L. Cool J, Talib Kweli, will.i.am, etc). He brought the audience to their feet with his rendition of "0 to 100" by Drake. Some of the hottest DJs across the globe were in attendance for the ceremony, which honored and recognized the world's most dynamic and talented purveyors of the turntables for their contribution to the culture of music and entertainment. Other performers for the evening's festivities included Ne-Yo, DJ Mustard, Fabolous and even a surprise set by famed DJ and Producer, Swizz Beatz. Escobar says, "It's an honor to not only open the Third Annual Global Spin Awards, but to be in New York and perform for my peers as the first ever violinist to open a music awards show is such a priceless feeling."
But with celebration can also come adversity. Just 45 minutes before Damien was scheduled to take the stage, he lost his prized violin in a New York City Cab the same violin that took him to third place on America's Got Talent, brought him to the white house multiple times to entertain sitting U.S. Presidents, and helped his album go platinum in Japan. This piece of history is irreplaceable, and was a devastating blow to the Juilliard bred, Queens born virtuoso. "This violin is my baby, it's like my child. I NEED to get it back", exclaims Escobar. He continued, "I feel lost without my own violin, and having to use a rental violin for the Global Spin Awards performance just confirmed how necessary it is for me to get my baby back."
Damien is hoping that after exhaustive efforts to recover the violin through extensive efforts by his management team, that most certainly getting the word out through media and local news will motivate the recipient of his lost violin to come forward, do the right thing and return it home to its rightful owner. There's nothing like having a piece of someone's history and being able to return it.
Damien laments, "The reason why it was so important for me to open the Global Spin Awards is because I believe the DJ brings new music to the people, and so do I I am always bringing music to the people. Without my violin, the music stops. I'm begging the public, the media and my fans to help me bring my instrument back home."
