Due for release on November 10th, Songs I Couldn’t Write is poised to be Emily Vaughn’s most captivating project yet. Alongside the announcement, the Nashville based singer-songwriter has also dropped new single “is anybody happy?” complete with avibrant and empowering official music video.
“Is anybody happy?” is the latest single taken from Emily Vaughn’s forthcoming album. Delving into a moment of existential reflection, the song revolves around the desire to earn the approval of one’s younger self.
Vaughn explains the writing process for the new song, “I wrote ‘is anybody happy?’ when I was feeling overwhelmed by the pressure of seeing everyone’s highlight reels online and feeling like I couldn’t compare. it’s about wanting to make the younger version of yourself proud while also hitting an existential point where you start to question if it even matters at all.”
In August 2022, Emily Vaughn moved back to Nashville from LA and began working with writer/producer Wilson Mcbeath. Songs I Couldn’t Write is a collection of songs Vaughn composed with Mcbeath over the past year living in Nashville. The album is a testament to the power of music as a cathartic outlet.
Each song is deeply personal and explores a new introspective realm in Vaughn’s songwriting unlike anything she has created thus far. The process of writing the album provided Emily with an opportunity to confront and make peace with painful memories, the act of breaking things down, personal challenges, lost love, and moments of self-discovery.
“It’s scary to share such vulnerable aspects of my life, but writing them has given me a sense of freedom that I’ve never quite felt before. My hope is that the people who can relate feel less alone,” Vaughn concludes.
In just a few years, Vaughn’s music has amassed over 90 million streams on Spotify alone. She achieved her first Billboard Top 20 chart hit with her Taska Black collaboration “Easier.” Vaughn has garnered critical press in major outlets Harpers Bazaar, VICE, Interview Magazine, C-Heads, LADYGUNN, Pop Crush, and many others.
A powerhouse writer, Emily Vaughn has written songs for major artists including GOT7’s BamBam’s title track to the 2023 album ‘Sour & Sweet’ and Jackson Wang’scollaboration with Indonesian sensation Afgan on ‘M.I.A’. She also has songwriting cuts with massive talents such Netta, Two Friends, Party Favor, and Jordy.
