EmiSunshine, Grant Maloy Smith Release New Christmas Novelty Song 'Fly Possum Fly' Image

Possums save Christmas in the twangy new novelty song "Fly Possum Fly" (Suburban Cowboy Records), from singer/songwriter Grant Maloy Smith and rising teen country music star EmiSunshine.

The musical tale begins on a "rooftop in Virginee," where Santa finds himself stranded, after Rudolph comes down with the flu. All ends well, thanks to magical possums that fly Santa's sleigh.

"The concept may seem silly, but it's so clever," EmiSunshine said. "It's informative and funny. Who knew possums had 50 teeth!"

EmiSunshine, who is now 14, has been attracting national attention since she was a young girl, appearing at music festivals throughout the world, as well as on NBC's "The Today Show," "Little Big Shots" with Steve Harvey, the Grand Ole Opry (over a dozen times), and elsewhere. She was also featured in the recent Elvis Presley documentary "The King," alongside Roseanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, Ethan Hawke, Alec Baldwin, Ashton Kutcher and more.

"When we were in the studio, I felt like I had gone back in time and was singing with a 14-year-old Dolly Parton," Smith said. "Emi has that kind of voice, that caliber of talent, and such a sparkling personality."

"Fly Possum Fly" is Smith's first recording to be released since his critically acclaimed 2017 album, "Dust Bowl - American Stories." His credits include performances on the nationally syndicated public television concert series "WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour" and "Song of the Mountains."

Smith also wrote a children's book based on his new song, which he will present at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville on Saturday, October 13. He and EmiSunshine will perform "Fly Possum Fly"' at the festival on Sunday, October 14.

"Fly Possum Fly," the book, is available at select book retailers and on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Fly-Possum-Grant-Maloy-Smith/dp/1946664340. The song can be downloaded through iTunes, Amazon and other digital outlets.
