Deeply concerned by Australian laws preventing marriage equality, Sydney-based artist Elizabeth Rose has made her opinion known on her new single "Division", and today drops the accompanying video that displays the emotional hardships facing same sex couples at present.
Globally, "Division" could not have come at a more appropriate time. With Ireland's historical legalization of marriage equality last month and the US Supreme Court set to hear arguments for marriage equality later this year, the debate is heating up to a fevered pitch in Rose's homeland as well. More than 72% of the Australian population supports it.
"We are moving towards this significant moment in Australian history and I urge people to accept and embrace this need for equality in our country," explains Rose.
The battle for equality and acceptance is reflected in this moving video which is a perfect complement to Rose's politically-charged track. It tells the story of a gay couple whose normal caring relationship is disrupted as they struggle with considerations of marriage and family approval.
In conjunction with Australian Marriage Equality (AME), Rose wants to help ensure that two people in love have the freedom to be married and have it legally recognized on Australian soil. Until the 17th June "Division" will be available via Rose's website on a pay what you choose basis with proceeds going to AME to fight for the rights of those currently discriminated against.
As the single explains "It's the Division hurting you and me. It's time to change, is it time to re-arrange? It starts with you."
"Division" is out now.
