Legendary rockers Edgar Winter & Rick Derringer return to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, February 6, at 8 p.m. Edgar Winter is well known for his million selling record, "Frankenstein", and other hits such as "Free Ride" and "Tobacco Road". Rick Derringer, as a member of The McCoys, had the number one hit "Hang On Sloopy" which knocked the Beatles out of their number one spot on Billboard that year. His solo smashes were "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo," "Still Alive and Well" and "Teenage Love Affair". The night will include a tribute to the late Johnny Winter. Tom Tom's Restaurant and Bakery (417 Main St., Ridgefield) will pour a free glass of house wine with dinner the night of this show when tickets/stubs are presented. With upwards of 20 albums and numerous collaborative efforts to his credit, Winter has also lent his talents to major national television and radio campaigns that have relied on Edgar's music to advertise their products. Guitarist/songwriter Rick Derringer is a rock/blues icon who also produces records for mega stars including Cyndi Lauper, Barbra Streisand, Meat Loaf, Kiss and Bette Midler. The McCoys had enjoyed four years of successful touring, when Rick merged his talents with Johnny Winter in 1969 forming Johnny Winter And (And referring to The McCoys). We can't forget the winter of 2002, where Rick ventured into a whole new musical world of smooth jazz. As Derringer explains, it's the kind of music he's been waiting to do his whole life.
