Dutch Pianist Joep Beving to Embark on First Ever North American Tour This Spring

Dutch pianist and composer Joep Beving is set to perform three shows in the United States this spring, including Le Poisson Rouge in New York on March 21, Masonic Lodge atHollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles on March 24 and Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on March 25. These performances are part of Beving's first ever North American tour and follow his previous celebrated performances across Europe, the U.K., Australia and Japan. Of his live performances, The Sydney Morning Herald says, "On the surface, his compositions seem so simple as to be almost childlike: delicate melodies picked out over gently lilting harmonies and rhythms...Yet like the best fairytales, they can bypass the conscious mind and tap into something deep and universal." TheMusic furthers, "With his dense, unravelling compositions often lasting around four or five minutes, Beving's music feels like the critically acclaimed soundtrack to a film that is yet to be made."

Beving's breakout debut album, Solipsism, was released in 2016 and features his Spotify viral tracks, "The Light She Brings" and "Sleeping Lotus." He followed this with his sophomore album, Prehension, in 2017 via Deutsche Grammophon. Together, both albums have over 160 million streams to date.

Hailing from the Netherlands, Beving made his live musical debut at the age of 14 at his town's local jazz festival. While deciding what to pursue a career in, Beving was torn between music and politics. He began studying piano at the Conservatoire, but due to a wrist injury he was forced to abandon his studies and pursued an economics degree instead.

Beving continued to host small performances for his friends and family, but after the unexpected death of a close friend, he decided to pursue his dream of making a solo album. Over the next three months, he wrote and recorded songs on his grandmother's piano in his kitchen at night while his family was asleep in the next room. The result was his debut album, Solipsism. Beving approached a record label with Solipsism but was turned down, so he created his own label, iaregiantrecords, and funded the pressing of 1,500 vinyl copies. After uploading the album to Spotify, several songs were featured on their "Peaceful Piano" playlist and soon after the album went viral. Beving performed the album on primetime Dutch television shows and at a solo recital at Amsterdam's famous Concertgebouw. After signing with Deutsche Grammophon, Beving followed the success of Solipsism with his second album, Prehension, in 2017.
