Dry Reef Share New Single THE WASH Image

Philadelphia-bred group Dry Reef today share their latest single "The Wash" from the upcoming debut full-length album Daychange, out October 5 via Free Dive Records. This is the third and final single before the album release, following "Start It Up" and "Come Away", which was recently featured on iHeart's Radio 104.5 in Philly as part of their New Music Discovery Show.

"The Wash" is an upbeat end of summer track for lovers of groups like Slightly Stoopid and Dirty Heads, but with the grit and heart of vocals similar to that of Caleb Followill from Kings of Leon. According to Dry Reef, "the song is a two-part alt-pop, bedroom pop composition." About halfway through the track, a wavy dancehall breakdown commences that will have jam band groupies feeling like they're back on the lawn-seat, while offering others an escape from reality, a moment in time for a clear mind where thoughts can drift away like summer lasts forever.

Though Dry Reef's notable beach rock sound is exemplified through instrumentation that feels like crashing waves of melody, the lyrics come from the group's generational anxieties that stem from everyday life as 24-year-olds in the rat race of early adulthood.

"I'm constantly living in an impending sense of doom, like the world will swallow me whole at any moment," shares lead vocalist Patrick Gillen. "I've been trying to let go of that, and this song is that conversation with myself. I feel like a lot of us feel this way, even if we can't admit it."

With "The Wash", Dry Reef aims to encourage listeners that everything is A-OK amongst the chaos, with a few minutes of light-hearted music. As the track continues, the outro evolves into a heart-pumping dance track meant to elevate the mind and spirit.

Dry Reef is composed of Patrick Gillen (lead vocals, bass), Collin O'Donnell (lead guitar), Charles Minehart (vocals, guitar), and Joseph Anderson (drums). Rooted in the beach-inspired sound that put them on the map, they incorporate inflections of surf rock and post-rock forming a refreshing, organic sound. They've opened for jam bands like Big Something and reggae groups like The Expendables. They're currently on an East Coast tour promoting Daychange.
