The Philadelphia-based group Dry Reef release their new music videotoday for the single "Start It Up" from their forthcoming new full-length album Daychange, available October 5 via Free Dive Records. Last week they shared the new track "The Wash", coming after their other recent single "Come Away", which has been featured on iHeart's Radio alternative 104.5 FM in Philly on the New Music Discovery Show.
The video for "Start It Up" follows a day of adventure from the perspective of a pet dog searching for his "LOST HUMAN" aka his owner; come to find out that the owner was just out all day and had left the pup at home. It makes for an interesting reversal of roles between pet and owner that will put a smile on your face and offer up a different way to think of those furry companion relationships.
Dry Reef share, "The song "Start It Up" is about a dive into the utterly unknown, and trusting that the answer will become a little bit clearer with every step. It made perfect sense to tell that story through a loving pitbull-mix adventuring far and wide for his owner."
Dry Reef's music is all about building positivity through everyday anxieties. The band has received comparison to groups like Slightly Stoopid and Dirty Heads, but with the soulful grit of vocals similar to that of Caleb Followill from Kings of Leon. Their notable beach rock sound breezes through instrumentation that feels like crashing waves of melody, but the lyrics come from the group's generational anxieties as 24-year-olds in the rat race of early adulthood and constant social media comparisons. With the fresh collection of songs on Daychange, the band aims to encourage listeners that everything is A-OK amongst the chaos.
Dry Reef is composed of Patrick Gillen (lead vocals, bass), Collin O'Donnell (lead guitar), Charles Minehart (vocals, guitar), and Joseph Anderson (drums). They've opened for Big Something and The Expendables, and are currently on tour along the East Coast promoting Daychange.
