In his decade living in New York City drummer Ches Smith has swiftly ascended to being a major creative force. His activity for the rest of the year is a testament to how integral he is as a voice in some of the most forward-looking groups today.

On October 11 at Roulette, Smith will premiere new work for an expanded version of his chamber ensemble Laugh Ash, in which the intricacies of chamber ensemble composition are morphed through a lens of low-fi hip hop, damaged electronics, and block structures, resulting in "hooks" of a sort.

Having recently premiered at his most recent residency at John Zorn's The Stone, this iteration will feature Jennifer Choi (violin), Anna Webber (flute), Nate Wooley(trumpet), Oscar Noriega (clarinet), Michael Nicolas (cello), while producer/engineer/musician, Eli Crews, provides live sound manipulation.
