Interdimensional dark wave star Drab Majesty has announced a new two-song 7inch, "Oak Wood b/w Egress," which will be available this weekend from DAIS Records in conjunction with the label's 10th Anniversary at The Regent in Los Angeles on Saturday. Featuring new songs "Oak Wood" (listen on YouTube) and "Egress", this new 7inch arrives at the start of Drab Majesty's extensive North American headline tour, which runs through October 13th (dates below).

Drab Majesty leader Deb Demure commented, "'Oak Wood' was a song received a couple of weeks following the Ghostship tragedy in Oakland. The DAIS family lost one of its most beloved members, Cash Askew, and its song title is a literal translation of her last name; In Old Norse being Eiki (oak) Skogr (wood) thus making Oak Wood. I found the name to be symbolically poignant in light of the events and wanted this to be a tribute piece. The lyrics grapple with the existence of a god in a time of such utter sadness, hopelessness, and confusion." Side B of the record features the new song "Egress" which "is meant to serve as a faint departure or daydream; spaces I often find myself drifting to as a means of escape when disturbing thoughts cyclically plague my brain" said Demure. "Side A confronts the issue and Side B acts as a mental respite. Making instrumental guitar pieces has always been an act of meditation and I hope if only for a brief moment, the listener can wander and lose themselves within the sonic imagery offered in this piece."
This Drab Majesty 7inch is limited to 100 on Light Blue, 400 on Split Clear/Blue, and 500 on Black. 200 of assorted colors from the pressing are signed editions - available at the shows only. OUT TODAY, 9/1; order atdaisrecords.com.
The "Oak Wood b/w Egress" 7inch follows the release of Drab Majesty's post-punk masterpiece The Demonstration, which came out earlier this year on DAIS. Chock "full of atmospheric spacescapes, darkwave melodies, and themes that breach the limits of time and space" (CVLT Nation), The Demonstration is comprised of 11 songs that helped to fully realize Drab Majesty's transition from warbled cassette project to captivating post-punk medium.
Focusing on the aesthetics of cult ritual and the devastating power of music, Drab Majesty's live show has become a phenomenon in itself. Fronted by Demure and anchored by Mona D on keyboard accompaniment, Drab Majestyinfuses goth with pulsing synth and shimmery "tragic wave" flourishes.
