Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (PTPA) is proud to present "A Night of Beautiful Music" performed by HBO "Sopranos" star and "Godfather" actor Dominic Chianese tonight, April 11, at 7 p.m.
Dominic Chianese was born in the borough of the Bronx in New York, the son of a bricklayer. His grandfather immigrated to the United States from Naples, Italy, in 1904 and settled in the Bronx. After a decade of attending college and appearing in Off-Broadway theatre, Chianese attended his first professional acting class at HB Studio in Manhattan, with renowned teacher Walt Witcover. Drama and musical theatre became Chianese's passion. His first Broadway show was "Oliver!" in 1965. Chianese also played rhythm guitar and sang in local taverns and restaurants to supplement his income.
Chianese landed his first television appearance when George C. Scott recommended him for a role in the acclaimed series "East Side/West Side." In 1974, Francis Ford Coppola cast him as Johnny Ola in "The Godfather Part II," which sparked a major film career for Chianese, culminating in several films and plays with his dear friend, Al Pacino. Chianese has since appeared in four films with Pacino. He played Johnny Ola in "The Godfather Part II" (1974), Sonny's father in "Dog Day Afternoon" (1975), Carl Travers in "...And Justice For All" (1979), and himself in "Looking for Richard" (1996).
Dominic Chianese is most recognized for his role as Uncle Junior in the HBO Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning series, "The Sopranos." More recently, Chianese appeared as a guest actor in the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire" and CBS' hit series "The Good Wife." Chianese continues to make guest appearances on television and still performs in Broadway and Off-Broadway theatre.
Chianese is an accomplished tenor and musician whose debut album "Hits" (2000) featured Italian-American traditional and popular songs as well as some original ones. Chianese released his second album, "Ungrateful Heart," in 2003, featuring 16 classic Neapolitan songs. He performed Salvatore Cardillo's sentimental classic "Core 'n Grato" from "Ungrateful Heart" on the third season finale of "The Sopranos."
On April 11, Chianese will perform with two accomplished guitarists, Marc Vincent Sia and Mark Pelliccio, at Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts. Together they will be playing Italian-American classics. Dominic is a friend of Patchogue Theatre and has played at the theatre numerous times during the last eight years.
