DOM LA NENA
July 2 at 7:30 PM
$15
Brazilian born cellist and vocalist Dom La Nena released her debut album, Ela (Six Degrees Records), on January 15th. Ela is a stunningly intricate and understated collection of thirteen original compositions, sung in Portuguese and Spanish. Dom's delicate vocals and multi-tracked cello on the album are supported by spare, minimal arrangements by co-producer and label mate Piers Faccini, with textures that fall somewhere between classic Everything But The Girl and The XX.

BRIAN LANDRUS
CD Release: "Mirage"
July 2 at 9:30 PM
$14
Over the past decade Brian Landrus has emerged as the most powerful new voice on the baritone saxophone with a series of critically hailed albums exploring an array of grooves, from straight-ahead swing to slinky R&B. His prowess on low reeds, live and on record, has earned him wide critical acclaim including a place as Rising Star Baritone Saxophonist in Downbeat Magazine's Critics Poll for the past three years, and Jazzwise Magazine says he's "unquestionably the most original baritonist for years." Landrus has recently been touring worldwide as a member of Esperanza Spalding's Radio Music Society band. This concert celebrates the release of Mirage, a singular masterpiece integrating Landrus' Kaleidoscope quintet with a string quartet. Melodically charged and harmonically venturesome, Landrus' music on his 5th CD as a leader is marked by sumptuous textures, cascading lines and captivating movement.

THE HOT SARDINES
July 3 at 9:30 PM
$15
Take a blustery brass lineup, layer it over a rhythm section led by a Fats Waller-style stride-piano virtuoso, and tie the whole thing together with a magnetic, one-of-the-boys frontwoman whose voice recalls another era, and you have the Hot Sardines, an NYC outfit (with a tap dancer) that's been called "consistently electrifying live" (Popmatters). The Sardine sound - wartime Paris via New Orleans, or the other way around - is steeped in the kind of music Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and Waller used to make: Straight-up, foot-stomping jazz. Pianist-bandleader Evan "Bibs" Palazzo and Paris-born singer Miz Elizabeth describe their band as "born in the 1920s, but raised in the '00s," reflecting a philosophy that hot jazz, dixieland and Tin Pan Alley tunes are all pop music, not historical artifact to be handled with kid gloves.

SUFIANA
July 5 at 7:30 PM
$15
Sufiana is a seamless blend of Sufi Poetry. Indian Classical, Jazz, Electronic, Caribbean, Hip hop and Latin Sounds. It is a multinational fusion ensemble: comprised of musicians from all over the world who effectively blend Sufi tradition with Indian & Western musical styles. This internationally acclaimed group takes listeners on a musical sojourn that highlights instrumental textures with captivating vocals and spellbinding percussion.

ALEX FERREIRA
With Special Guest!
July 5 at 9:30 PM
$15 in adv / $20 at the door
Meet your newest musical crush. As a young and refined Dominican singer/songwriter, he has the voice, the songs, and the live show that have captivated Spain for the past few years. Ever since he set up residence in Madrid, he has enjoyed a successful career, capped by a record deal with Warner/DRO and the release of 3 EPs and 2 LPs. His first record entitled "Un Domingo Cualquiera" was released in 2010 and hailed by Radio 3 in Spain as one of the most anticipated releases that year. In late 2012, Alex Ferreira released his most accomplished record to date, "El Afán", which is draped with modern rhythms, colors, and sounds that reinforce the powerful melodic abilities he has become famous for. After playing to a sold out crowd at Rockwood Music Hall last summer, he returns to NYC via Joe's Pub to showcase this new record, which lends itself to a most intimate and intense live performance no one will want to miss.

ONE CHILD BORN:
The Music of Laura Nyro
July 6 at 7:00 PM
$15
One woman. Ten characters. The songs of Laura Nyro. Written by Louis Greenstein and Kate Ferber, and directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt, this acclaimed one-woman show celebrates the music and creative force of the late singer-songwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer whose pop masterpieces topped the charts in the '60s and '70s. As innovative as Regina Spektor, as intimate as Norah Jones, singer-musician-actor Kate Ferber digs into Laura Nyro's disarming song catalogue in this original 75-minute tour de force. Between each classic song, Ferber portrays a character whose life was touched by Nyro's enduring music.

EMILY ASHER'S GArden Party
Celebrating Hoagy Carmichael
July 6 at 9:30 PM
$12
Led by Asher's tenacious trombone and sweet vocals this versatile group from New York City's vibrant early jazz scene bring a hot and charming celebration of one of the first Great American singer songwriters, Hoagy Carmichael. Classics like "Startdust," "Georgia On My Mind," Up A Lazy River" performed with the stylistic flair of Louis Armstrong's enchanting Hot Fives to the funky and soulful music of New Orleans brass bands.

John Kelly
Rebel Songs of a Range Queen
July 7 at 7:30 PM
$20
Visual artist, dancer, actor and downtown cabaret artist John Kelly will be performing 'Rebel Songs of a Range Queen', including songs by Kurt Weill, Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel, The Good, The Bad, & The Queen, Joanna Newsome, The Clash, & The Shins. John Kelly returns to Joe's Pub for a 4 performance residency, on the heels of his breakthrough debut concerts last fall. 'Rebel Songs of a Range Queen' will display his 3-octave voice singing as a weathered, genre-traipsing punk altar boy, as the rebellious, orphaned sage. His flexibility as a performing artist is stunning. With special guest Carol Lipnik. A portion of the proceeds will go to the ongoing Hurricane Sandy Relief.
